What Is The Difference Between World Of Warcraft And The Two Expansion Sets?

What is the difference between World of Warcraft and the two expansion sets?

Postby Arahad » 27 Jan 2011, 18:26

I wanted to know what the difference is between the original World of Warcraft and the two expansion sets, the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King. I also was wondering if you can simply play by yourself without paying to play online. Also, do you have to own the original WoW in order to play an expansion set?

All the expantions are just different worlds with different monsters/creatures!
The original is the basic world!

1. You need Burning Crusade to play Wrath of the Lich King .
WofLK Allows you to level to 80 and other new features .
2. Yes you do need the original WoW in order to play the expansions.
3. You cant play without paying (Its a pay to play game)

If you are just starting out it's best to just get the original World of Warcraft, unless you want to play a Blood Elf or Draenei. The original World of Warcraft will allow you to play until you get to level 60 (as a Human, Orc, Troll, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Tauren or Forsaken) and you will no longer be able to level, instead you will earn gold, in the game, as you turn in quests. World of Warcraft works on it's own, you do not need another game to be able to play it.

The Burning Crusade expansion gives you two new races to choose from (the Draenei and the Blood Elves) as well as allows you to level past 60, taking you to level 70. Unless you have Wrath of the Lich King you will not be able to level past 70, instead you will earn gold, as you turn in quests. The Burning Crusade expansion will only work if you have World of Warcraft installed on your computer.

Wrath of the Lich King can only be installed if you have both World of Warcraft and The Burning Crusade installed on your computer. It does not add any new races to play, but instead adds a new class called Death Knight that can only be used if you have a character that is level 55 or over on your account. It also brings new places to quest and will allow you to level past 70, taking you to 80. You will earn gold instead of passing 80.

At the time their is no way to play World of Warcraft (either on it's own or with any of the expansions) while not online. You cannot play on your own, I'm afraid. You can ignore people and try to do every quest you receive by yourself, but some parts of the game are too difficult for one person to do and you'll need to group up with others.

Well World of Warcraft is the basic original game and of course, expansions are expansions to the original World of Warcraft.

The expansions all have their own special new features and such added such as Burning Crusade allows players to reach maximum level of 70, the Blood Elf race, questing in the Outlands, etc. And WotLK allows maximum level of 80, questing in Northend, hero class: Death Knights, etc.

You do have to own the original WoW in order to play Burning Crusade and also both original WoW + Burning Crusade in order to play Wrath of the Lich King. There are private servers that you can play...but it's just different than paying and playing it with everyone else.
