Hi!
I was wondering what places you'd like to visit most of all, or if already been there - what places you have enjoyed the most?

I start first.

I always wanted to take a sunbath on the island where "The beach" movie was shot with Leonardo DiCaprio.

you said it brother. The movie was filmed on a beach that is probably similar to a paradise. If I once get there, I will never leave that island.

I'ld like to travel all over Europe by train - I've wanted to do that since I was a teenager Then go from Helsinki - St Petersburg - Moscow, and then maybe get the Trans-Siberian railway, or follow the silk route...

For a beach holiday you can't beat Britain. I've tried going abroad to the beach, and I just get miserable because there's no pasty or chips

A travel across Europe would be worthy enough. I'm proud of living in Europe, since it's the cradle of world culture. I didn't mean to offend Asia, it surely does have a nice culture and all, but if we talk about the modern world, then everybody assimilates the word Europe with culture.
I don't travel much, but I surely don't wanna leave outside Europe. You can find here a country that will fit best your needs. The southern countries are good for rest, middle European countries are nice in culture and nice population, northern are good for making business.
By the way Becka, you wanna take the Trans-Siberian railway? Aren't you afraid of cold weather?

I feel the same way about Europe! I have so many friends who want to go to America or Australia, and never visit anywahere that doesn't speak English . But Northern Europe is not just for business, it is also very beautiful. Helsinki is the "Venice of the North," and I am told the Norweigian Fjords and the Northern Lights are unforgettable. Even the UK can be fun ;-P

Yes, I am very afraid of Siberia - I am afraid of most places! The climate, the wild animals, the strange men, the exotic diseases... But I am more scared of becoming some lonely old cat-lady with a load of books about places I never visited Besides, my mother keeps track of me

Perhaps I'm not so afraid of the cold because I cannot really imagine frozen tundra - we simply don't have that kind of place in the UK. I once went to Scotland in winter when it was as cold as Moscow... The water supply froze! But it was really beautiful

Anyway, the railway doesn't go through the coldest part of Siberia. I am looking forward to visiting Lake Baikal, and perhaps taking some excursions into the areas around the train line. Have a look at these: http://wikitravel.org/en/Siberia




I would perhaps like to do the Silk route, but this has only recently opened up to westerners, and some still consider it a little dangerous

Yes Becka, unfortunately everything which is interesting to human being is dangerous. I agree that visiting Asia would leave great impressions and feelings, but, Asian climate conditions are so unfitted for Europeans. It is either too hot or too cold. Even if there're places with so-so weather, many other things will spoil the feeling. Being in Asia means that the feeling of safety is never accompanying the traveler. That's why, when tourists travel to Asia, most of them take bus tours are have arranged every thing to do, otherwise, the lack of knowledge about Asian culture and specifics might bring unexpected and unwanted results. Therefore, Asia is not for me, since I like to stay in my country, feeling safe and enjoying life. But there are people who can't satisfy their mood but by visiting what they always wanted. It's a kind of wish. And if you're that person, Becka, you should obviously visit the places you mentioned. But don't do it just because you're "scared of becoming some lonely old cat-lady with a load of books about places you never visited" . That's a wrong point of thinking. Just think, you're from UK, now do you realize how many people would like to be in your skin? hmmm.... I guess tens of millions, that's why maybe you should try exploring your country more. There might be interesting things there you haven't seen yet. BTW have you visited the stonehenge in Wiltshire? I would lovely visit it if I'm in UK. This place is mysterious - things that I like. Besides, surroundings are not less beautiful for sure.

Terry, even 15-20 years ago I would have agreed with you! (my father still does - he won't have a passport ) I remember the UK when I was a small child, and it was indeed a beautiful place But the UK that I love is disappearing: everything has become so commercial now It upsets me to see my country becoming tacky and Americanised - somewhere where the mystery has gone, legends are forgotton (or turned into certain inaccurate Disney films ) and most people are denied entry to our most significant places.

For example: my favourite place is Lands' End in Cornwall - the cornish coastline is stunning, windswept and wild. When I was little, you could sramble down the cliffs and sit on a bench carved into the rocks, looking out to sea. or exploring fortress ruins at the base of the cliffs. In about 1990, some guy bought the area and fenced off the cliffs (apparently they are dangerous, which is total bullsh*t). Now it is just some stupid expensive theme-park, where our local legends have been turned into plastic cartoon characters. Most local people cannot even afford to take their families - there is a very ugly social divide in Cornwall. It makes me angry just to tell you this

Stonehenge is a bit of a sad story too - legally, it is on common ground. The surrrounding area (including the stones) was commandeered by the army in the 1st or 2nd world war... Now the stones are owned by English Heritage (the surrounding area is still MOD). Now, English Heritage do a fine job of maintaining stately homes, but all they have done with Stonehenge is charge visitors entry fees, and build a shop Again, it is too expensive for most families to visit. I have never been in - my family couldn't afford it when I was little, and now I have only looked from a distance, because I am so angry about it!

We still have a few places that haven't become commercial you would like Avebury circle, near Stonehenge. It is a much bigger circle (though the stones are smaller and perhaps not so impressive...) and it actually circles a village, so it cannot be bought! Some say the area is a centre for crop circles and paranormal activity You can have a nice meal and a pint of ale in the pub, watching the sun set over the stones


Perhaps you are right - I should research my country a little more, and write an alternative tourist guide?

I guess the reason I want to see other places, is because I need to know that there are still places in the world that haven't been spoiled! it is interesting to see how other people live their lives, and it is good to have your perceptions challenged. And perhaps if I bring back enough stories, people here will start to take pride in what they have, instead of trying to be like America all the time (Who am I kidding? I've spent every wet weekend for years reading and watching TV programmes about other places ) But I should warn you all not to let your countries be degraded like mine has been!

I know there are many circles in the world similar to the Avebury circle. Moreover, there are entire shapes drawn on the ground, occupying vast areas. Many consider these were made by aliens, but of course nobody is sure what they mean and after what criterion these places are chosen.
I really feel sorry for UK that it's loosing its best things and traditions. But, I believe, removing old traditions is exactly the fact that makes a country be developed and modern. Traditions evolve (just like in Darwin's theory). The new generation probably likes it, just as you liked those places many years ago.

everywhere i havent been n europe so far...that is eastern europe ,scandinavia and iceland....apart from europe,new zealand,australia,canada and south africa....maybe brazil or argentina....that's it for me...

i have been in 14 european countries so far.....loved ljubljana (slovenia), lisbon (portugal), brugges(belgium),endiburgh(scotland),amsterdam(holland),luxembourg(luxembourg),dublin(ireland),barcelona(spain),venice(italy),salzburg(austria),paris(france),freiburg(germany),zurich(switzerland),and skopelos in greece.......

i love traveling in europe.....

it is absolutelly fabulous....but too expensive....two cappucinos in the plaza 25 euros...!! 7.5 euro each, plus the live music 10 euros....!!!! when the bill arrived we had a heart attack...and it is supposed to help the love birds fall in love....we avoided places with any kind of music ever since in venice...either live or recorded...!!!!!! you never know what bill you are going to get....!!

hey chris, what's the problem about the bill. When you chose cappuccino you were probably offered the menu and saw the prices. Plus, what if you refused to pay for musicians? If they still request money, show them your player and headphones

well actually no...we saw only the prices about the cappuccino....the music was not included....we should have guessed you see our first day in venice,that music is charged...!!!

I think you could simply not pay and that's all. This way they infringed the law by not letting know the consumer about their "terms and conditions", which here means the cost of meal and the environment.

I would like very much to visit Paris, the town of love, also i have a wish to visit Las Vegas, the town of the lights. There are many wonderful, beautiful places that is good to visit, at least one time in your life, but to remember this is for all the rest of your life. Sincerely if I could I've been traveled all around the world, unfortunately not everyone has this possibility.
