Headhunting on me
#1
I'm a professional in IT. I work for a German company (sorry can't tell you the name). Recently I had an offer to work for an American company. They offer a higher salary, and more opportunities on developing my profession. I don't know what to do. I mean I'd like to have a higher sallary, but I'm afraid to risk. What shall I do?

you must be a lucky guy if two IT companies are headhunting you. I think what you should do is to bid a bigger salary for you. Tell the company you work for now that you were proposed a better job, and see what they tell you.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

I'd prefer stability, it's a big risk to change your workplace. Time will pass untill the earlier performance is reached

That's what usually Americans do. Americans don't like stability, and if they are offered a good position, they will take it, regardless of its location, it can even be in Europe. But, why not? If they offer you better conditions then go ahead and try it.

Did you know that currently there are companies which offer their services in "headhunting" professionals. Really, they are specialist in doing that. So if somebody needs to attract a well-known specialist he can address to such companies.

Salary and professional development should not be the only choice criteria.
You should take in account several things like : where you going to be sent ? what are the opportunities for YOUR development ? are you going to travel ? etc...
Those criteria MUST be what YOU like and dislike.
From what you say, you are not a risky guy, so you maybe should ignore this offer....

On the other hand I would suggest Steven to risk. Those who don't risk miss hundreds of opportunities everyday.

It's becoming similar to football team transfers. But why not? If a specialist is a really good one, he must be paid adequately.

I consider worthy specialists must be paid higher than football players. Football players receive millions, but, for what? For having fun by playing with the ball? Hmmm... now just think what specialists do while they work - this is a real work which require their entire attention, no time for entertainment.

Certainly, the salaries of some football players are too much exceeded (ex. Beckham = 1 million dollars per week), but, since they earn this money this means they deserve that.

Certainly they deserve it. If you can prove wrong, try to show a better performance and you will have more!

I agree with you. It is very hard to tell your boss what intellectual resources are you using, how much time and maybe stress does it require to reach a solution in an IT problem. This is because nobody can see what processes are happening in the brain in such a situation.

But football can be seen, admired, even if there are no winners or losers 0-0, because it has a much bigger public to judge their work, and with the help of the media, everything is enlarged into much bigger scales, transforming it in a global show. Proportionally with this show, the income increases also.

You seem to be envy. I agree with you in a portion or so, but we may also admit that to play football very well needs a lot of hard work.

actually much effort is not required if you are an inborn professional, if you are talented. It's similar to a situation when a child that has great mathematical abilities solve the same problems maths tasks as his mates do

Well we must recognize that such big talents are exceptions, and appear from time to time.
