Russian Naval Exercise in the Caribbean

Is this the next Cuban Missile Crisis?!

Is it a good thing to put the US in their place? Have America become too big and arrogant since the end of the Cold War?

Look at Putin! He is not only brilliant politic, but he has great dry sense of humor. He is mocking at USA by mimic of USA actions.

Yes, I do think we are in a middle of a very tensioned cold war, that we aren’t aware of. That is why USA didn’t act that evidently in the Georgian military conflict.

Recently Russian air forces conducted some military exercises in Venezuela. It seems Venezuela found a very good ally. It benefited from the worsening in relations between Russia and the rest of the world.

This is not a second Cold War, the cold war occured due to ideological differences. However it is definatly a result of strained relations between the Bush administration and Russia.

They say it is not the new Cold War. Actions speak louder than words.

So you say that a difference in interests can't create a cold war?

The Cold War between the USSR and the US was due to the fact that one was capitalist and the other one was communist. That was the main reason behind it. Russia at the moment, is as far away from communism as it has ever been. Therfore to call this a repeat of the Cold War of the 90's would be wrong. However I think I understand what you are trying to say. This is another period of strained relations between the US and its allies and Russia and its allies. It will also very unlikely turn into a so called "hot" war between the two countries. And it has also included a difference of interests.
So, this could possibly be called "A" cold war, but it is not a repeat of "The" Cold War.

It`s not a new Cold War - nobody told Bush the Cold War ended almost 20 years ago. Please tell him that if he occurs here ))))

This cold war is becoming a very complex one. If during the first cold war the border between the world's 2 polarity was clearly set, now Russia became stronger and it has many allies around the world. Maybe even a European state could become its ally now.

Russia will live or the world will die. We have enough power to destroy it. Russia has some plan, plan about the world. Democracy, West way of life- sounds like fake, we realized that the West lied to us, we need power, we have our great leader- Putin, he will bring victory for us. It is my personal point of view.

Hey, I'm sure you're a good guy, but, by posting such stupid and propagandistic things like hinting to the fact Russia can destroy the world, is not good at all.
Think a little before doing that, ok

come on, don't you think we deserve to live in peace? just for change? Just because some guy, named Putin or Bush, does not really matter, decided to prove something to himself, the rest of the world should not suffer.

Mika - I completely agree with you Smile

NewRussianTown: The west did not lie to you. Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher lied to you. And while they promoted Conservative/Republican Capitalism (which is NOT the same thing as Democracy) to the east, they were struggling to retain popularity in their own countries. Margaret Thatcher made it her mission to crush the trade unions in the UK, and (in some areas at least) is still a deeply hated figure. There are even rumours that she retained power through rigging elections :nonnon [there were certainly cases where care homes were voting Conservative on behalf of their elderly patients...]

Please do not destroy us! Confusedhock: It is more constructive to lead by example: if people in the west see that your life is good, they will want this for themselves. Confuseduper There are already people here who do not like the dumbed-down, chemical, consumer society we have, and I suspect people will become more unhappy with it as the recession takes hold.

Regardless of what is happening in the world, people shouldn't forget about kind human relationship. Evil is weak, while good is more powerful. I believe Russia can live in peace with all the world states.

Don't pay attention to that. A grown-up man would never answer the challenges, though I understand you are a patriot and want to defend your country.

Come on, man! Russia doesn't need any plan about the world, Russia needs a plan obout her own. Don't believe in what you see on your TV. The fact that Russia sent two rusty ships (though one of them is very powerfull ship, so big that the French sailors was exited and told "only Soviet scientist can develop such stuff") into carribbean doesnt show we have power to fight USA))) The only thing that Russia still alive is her Nukes. We don't need confrontation, though the targets are known.

And who told you that the West offered You their democracy? They offered you cheap export version of it, full of melamine)))

I am really concerned about the fact Russia has placed two rockets in Kaliningrad as an answer to the Poland's-USA missiles. Medvedev has said these rockets will keep under control the entire Poland and a part of Germany.

1) Russia hasn't placed it yet. Medvedev Told "If USA place missiles in Poland we place Iskander"
2) It is not two Rockets it is much more.
3) Nothing serious, it is just tactical high - precision missiles with stealth technology, without nuclear warheads. And it is true - Iskander covers the whole poland.

Disturbing is not ammount of rockets or thier abilities but fact itself. It is not cold war but it is not warm peace either. Two nations continue aiming at each other and that is disturbing.

you are right verb. However Poland provoked Russia when it agreed to place the PRO-missiles. Russia doesn't like it, since it's a super power. I hope these rockets will never be used...

The west has a significant technical advantage over the Russians. Russian Naval exercises in the Caribbean is designed to disrupt and force a redeployment of western resources to counter this movement. At the moment every thing is centered around eastern Europe. Destroying Russia is not the game plan any more getting control of its resources is. This requires a different set of tools.

What does it all mean, nothing just another round of wasting money. Fusion power will be coming on line in the next 10 years. Gas can be extracted from coal, a lot of coal mines have being restarted. Bio fuel is being produced in quantity. Canada has vast reserves of fossil fuel, solar and wind power is producing electricity. Cars are becoming more efficient, light bulbs now require a quarter of the power to light them up. Heat produced in industry is now being used to heat green houses to produce vegetables in winter.

There is a new administration in the white house, that does not have the money to play silly games like the previous one which was hunting every one. Lets wait and see what happens at the SALT talks.
