Wimbledon Is Not Afraid Of The Financial Crisis

Wimbledon is not afraid of the financial crisis

Postby M.Helen » 05 Dec 2008, 23:43

The grand slam Wimbledon's organizers consider the world financial crisis can not influence this championship, regardless of what happens to the economy.

- We are in the best position, against others - a representative of the English tennis federation, Tima Philips says. We are lucky because the demand on tickets is much higher than the offer. The tournament's contracts with its sponsors will terminate only in a couple of years, while the contract on broadcast was concluded for an even longer period of time, and there is no need to reconclude it in the nearest future.

Also, Philips said that the main court will be supplied with a sliding roof.

What about the sportsman's salary? :)
Will it not be affected by the crisis?

To put it logically, I can't see how sportsmen's salaries can be affected by the crisis. That's because, they will lose motivation. This system allows only raising salaries, and not letting them down.

Wimbledon stadiums have always been overcrowded during matches. So even if the demand for tickets is shorter, it will cover 100% of places anyways. We can notice a 50,000-pounds rise in price between 2007 and 2008.

Things that Wimbledon is a big amount of money which is spent by tourists annually during the Championship, as it expects much fewer tourists than years before.

Maybe, just a little. This event is too important for being affected by the crisis. UK won't miss the chance to organize exclusive and fantastic sport shows. No money will be spared for that, since the Olympic games will be the mirror of UK economic condition.
