ATM Trojan! Be Careful!!!

ATM trojan! Be careful!!!

Postby Steven » 21 Mar 2009, 19:17

Deibold, the famous American producer of ATM machines, have revealed that some of their ATMs were infected with sophisticated viruses, the ones reminding computer Trojans. These viruses stole the client's credit card confidential information. The data was encrypted and passwords were retrieved.
The hackers were most likely Russians, as the first ATM trojan case was detected in Russia. The suspects were arrested and now an investigation is made.

wow, that's dangerous enough
what if the clients had solid amounts of money on those cards? The fact they were stolen, I think, is difficult to be proved. In addition, one ATM can be used by hundreds of people during one day, not to mention a week or month, so it's interesting how much time were those ATM infected.

It would be more dangerous if these trojans were able to affect the credit/debit cards themselves and every ATM which is further used. This way they could spread very fast.

Happily no similar cases were detected in Europe. Still, if it happened to me, I would claim for receiving damage repair from the bank + moral damage repair. I am the customer and if they didn't spend enough efforts for ensuring me a safe environment for using their cards, the law is on my side.

Not everything can be controlled by banks. This is a force majeur. If your money gets stolen from the card and the data about your deposit are erased, I doubt there's a way to prove the amount you owned on that card.

Nathan, don't worry about that. As a rule, every bank registers every transaction made by their client. Any cent that was either padi or received on the card is registered in their automatic bookkeeping system.

I still believe that bank cards are very safe. The fact with the virus in ATM is bad, but they are not spread allover the world. There were single cases, and I doubt they will spread.

I never thought that there's also trojan for the ATM machines! Gosh, it seems like our world is full with hackers, either online or offline! :fi

It seems that the hacker of the ATM is really intelligent. The hacker could really enter to the machine and hack that information. By that time, he will then corrupt all the information and do some more notorious acts.
