How to warn against frauds in e-commerce? - Terry - 05-31-2008

I wanted to buy an e-book about globalization, the author describes the book quite nice, but after a little rambling through the internet I found feedbacks from people claiming it’s a fraud. It was not for the first time when I was lucky to avoid buying items through internet. Is there a way to initially understand it’s a fraud or real offer?

the design of the site is a very important feature. You have to compare it with other websites and if you find it definitely different from other, find something an alternative

why do you need to buy something online? in order to avoid frauds, you have to go by yourself to the shop and buy whatever you want. Because you have to touch the item before buying it, since you may not like at all

ecommerce doesn't namely mean buying something through the internet. All the transactions that are made between companies is also ecommerce. So, the only way to protect themselves against frauds is to hire more specialists and spend more money on security systems.

Didn't you try to trace the IP or something? I understand it's not big money, but tomorrow they will become stronger and you will pay more for nothing.

Depending on what you are selling there are a variety of different things you can do to minimize fraud. If I was setting up a new ecom site and didn’t want to use paid software I would do the following:

Try my best to block vpns/proxies/sock5’s etc.
Block outdated or old browser headers
Device fingerprinting
Require CVV/ use some sort of identity verification
To be honest, it’s much cheaper and less time consuming to just get a service.

For that I recommend:

IPQS(Ip quality score)
forensiq
maxmind
etc.
