Russia - A New World Player!

Russia - a new world player!

Postby Steven » 07 Jun 2008, 10:23

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Saturday that Russia wishes to take part in forming new rules of game in the world economy.
"Russia is a global player today. Understanding our responsibility for the fate of the world, we wish to participate in forming new rules of game, not because of the notorious imperial ambitions, but because we have official opportunities and resources here," Medvedev told the opening of the St. Petersburg economic forum.
"I believe in making the world safe for our children, but not our children's children, because I don't think children should be having sex." :)

At 17,075,400 square kilometres (6,592,800 sq mi), Russia is by far the largest country in the world, covering more than an eighth of the Earth’s land area; with 142 million people, it is the ninth largest by population. It extends across the whole of northern Asia and 40% of Europe, spanning 11 time zones and incorporating a great range of environments and landforms. Russia has the world's largest mineral and energy resources, and is considered an energy superpower. It has the world's largest forest reserves and its lakes contain approximately one-quarter of the world's unfrozen fresh water.

Don't blame Medvedev!

of course, Medvedev is forced to act under the circumstances and state of things in Russia. He seems to be a quite democratic president. that's why it's not his personal interest to do that. But, when people hear "Medvedev said", they automatically consider him guilty for everything that happen

and it does nothing bad. It's true that Russia has enough resources and it's normal that such a state can forward its rules towards world powers.

it's good as long as it doesn't blackmail any country. Let's hope it won't, 'cause we are all screwed.

Medvedev confirmed these words at the G8 summit which now takes place in Japan. He says this that this is the truth, and nothing can be done about that.

Yep, Russia looks very desperate right now, because of the lack of support of the global political leaders.
Kenya was the second and last state to recognize formally the independence of the new states, isn’t so?

How much time will it take, and will it ever happen that Russia becomes a respected country in EU and US?

I wouldn't say many of these countries back Russia. They are rather neutral than allies.
