Do you believe that a macedonian nation really exists?I think that they are simply the bulgarian minority of former Yugoslavia.As about Alexander the great and the macedonian herritage,they simply belong to Greece.The fact that many fyromians claim greek land for their country is simply a serious danger for peace and stability here in the balkans.what is your opinion?

What does it matter if a nation really exist or if it doesn't... we are all humans.. we live on the same planet under the same sun. Breath the same air. All waters around our lands are interconnected. What we have to do is forget about illusory divisions like race, color, nationality and start to live in harmony.

This is a very kind thought indeed.Unfortunately my neighbors dont share it with you,since they all claim some piece of my country.After the fall of communism,balkan chauvinism has risen again.Not only Turkey remains a serious threat towards Greece,but imperialist claims have been emerged from the north ex communist countries as well.I should exclude Bulgaria though,which is fortunately a member of the E.U!

Do you really consider it a threat for Greece? FYROMians' claims and acts are nothing but a drop in the sea, if compared to the number of people with a contrary opinion.

Fyrom cannot harm Greece.Not alone anyway.BUT...If a war with Turkey happens,yes they may cause a serious problem to Greece.It is very annoying the fact that three of our neighboring countries claim some land from my country.Only Greece and Cyprus face such kind of a threat in the E.U.

The balkan peninsula unfortunately remains a very problematic region,and we need no war here in Greece...Enough bloodshed until 1948,year of the end of the greek civil war...But then again,we had the turkish invasion against Cyprus...

I doubt very much Turkey will obtain any benefit if it starts a war against Greece. Besides, starting a war against Greece means starting a war against the entire EU. Don't worry, Turkey doesn't have enough courage to do that.

now imagine yourself in the skin of African people. Most African countries are very unstable in their status. Thus, wars, or at least attacks permanently take place there. If NATO exercises its duties adequately, no war is to happen in Europe.

anyway,the reason for the situation in the balkans,is in my opinion the ottthoman occupation for 400 to 500 years...A long,dark,harsh turkish winter while the rest of Europe was experiencing freedom and a civilisation boom...

not quite freedom. While the Balkans was attacked by Turks, the rest of Europe was dominated by interior local wars. France, England, Germany had many problems during this period.

Turks mostly attacked Romanian regions at those times. This was their basic target. They actually succeed, and Romania was under Turkey's occupation for about 400 years. As we can see it today, Romania is a developed country and we can see that no Turkish influence caused misbalance for Romania's development.

what would it change? Would Balkans now be richer than France, Germany, UK? I don't think so. I agree that Turks caused a lot of troubles to eastern Europe. But, today, they are even kind of useful. A lot of textile products come from Turkey.

Turkey is a nation that even today violates the territorial rights of Greece,claims northwestern Greece,occupies North Cyprus etc...I see Turkey as a serial killer or something.

Did you know anything about the Armenian,Assyrian or Greek-pontian genocide which all took place between 1915-1922?

Did you know anything about "Istanbul pogrom" of 1955 or Cyprus invasion of 1974?Did you know about the burning of Kurdish villages in southeastern Turkey back in the '90s and the massive deportation of Kurdish villagers to western Turkey?

Believe me,i trully dont care about turkish textiles...Neither should you...

i would love to enlight you people concerning matters of Balkan history and mentality.At least from my own point of view.But i assure you that the people of this peninsula concider the Turkish/otthoman occupation as a huge ammount of wasted time...Perhaps with the exception of the noumerous muslim minorities...

Why the Black Sea is called Pontus anyway? It sounds a little bit funny. So Pontus Euxinus means the entire regions surrounding the Black Sea?

Euxinus Pontus in ancient greek means "sea of hospitality"...

Pontus is a "small sea"...


This word is also a part of the compound greek word "Hellesponte",which means "sea of Elli"...

Until the genocide of 1915,there were about 700.000 greeks in the region of the Turkish coast of the Black sea.They were called Pontians,"Pontioi"...

as far as I know, during the genocide of 1915 only Armenians were killed. Or I'm wrong?
