New discovers offer new opportunities, that is why as long as it is useful and harmless, the "darkest material" should be exploited. In which way is it harmless? It may be harmless as a final product but if we consider what is involved in it's production... is it still safe for environment?

EU are not Christian countries, EU are countries where people have the freedom to choose what to believe and what not to believe.
For any country to be accepted in EU it need a more or less stable and growing economy. When your country achieve this level of economical development the salaries will be higher... so only few will leave imho.
