http://euro-med.dk/billeder/Eurabia-Burkha-Turkey-128.jpg I almost got stroke while reading yesterday a headline “Worse than the Taliban – new law rolls back rights for Afghan women” in the Guardian. Not due the act itself but because it reflects the substance and outcome of EU’s civil crisis manag...

I just took a glance at very interesting new report published on 21st November 2008 by the United States National Intelligence Council - Washington's main intelligence body. The report, Global Trends 2025: A World Transformed, is published every four years to give U.S. leaders insight into looming ...

Re: Srebrenica: Europe's shame !

Very interesting interview of former Hague Tribunal spokeswoman Florence Hartmann popped to my eyes from newspaper Blic. Referring the arrest of Radovan Karadzic she told, that “information about the fugitives’ whereabouts was abundant, however, it would always turn out that one of the three countri...

Re: War on Pipes: Transport corridors as core of US-Russia confr

My point is that situation in Balkans and Caucasus makes big challenge to EU when it is developing its position. The three questions were due the reason that I hope to get opinions, arguments and point of view how EU position could be developed.

War on Pipes: Transport corridors as core of US-Russia confr

GUUAM When speaking about interests of West I would like to make a difference between US – or Anglo-American -interests and EU interests. After “Cold War” US has all the while expanded its influence post-Soviet territory with aim to guide those region’s natural resources under US companies. GUUAM (...

Re: The Balkans: From Constantinople to Communism

To clearman & ben, I do not know about sumerians but I think that common theory is that hungarians are one part of fenno-ugrian group originally from Volga/Ural region. So finnish and hungary are same language group like also estonia, mari, samojeds etc. Theories about origin are related to ques...

Re: EU needs independency from USA

I agree. I am not sure if it was Mrs Durham some 100 years ago who said that people in Balkans are "Living Past". However the time frame is quite different than anywhere else. I have met there people who are remembering events 100, 200, 600 years ago like they had happened yesterday.

Re: EU needs independency from USA

Yes, I think that to some level Kosovo conflict can be solved if both parties - Serbs and Albanians - are making deal. The 1st level would be ethnic tolerance, 2nd level including multiethnic society needs probably more time.

Re: EU needs independency from USA

New Deal could be solution to Kosovo problem Today´s Kosovo is an example of frozen conflict with thread to come next “failed state” in World. Negotiations during Ahtisaari time were waste of time; Troika lead talks showed some innovative solutions to status question, but Albanian side did not need...

EU needs independency from USA

In Europe the Kosovo question highlights the core problem of EU - uncritical following of US foreign (cowboy) policy . Some times I ask if it is EU or only UK the 51st state of USA. Year 2008 has showed the chaotic stage of international Kosovo administration. Local administration has been in same s...

Donors & field: Will Kosovo rise with 2 bn bucks?

A European Union-hosted donors' conference for Kosovo hopes to collect up to 1.5 billion euros on Friday to start turning from an aid-dependent protectorate to a viable economy. USA is throwing in some 400 m$ and Germany with 100-200 m€ are probably the biggest donors at country level so it is fair ...

Re: The Balkans: From Constantinople to Communism

There will be a future with different scenarios. a) "laizez faire" frozen conflict, west does not revise its politics, east keeps positions. EU will "supervise Kosovo some 20 years backed with Nato, north part lives its life integrated to Serbia - same case with Bosnia. Maybe the most...

This week U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried said that the U.S. is satisfied with the progress Kosovo.
