i am glad to know that you influenced the Nivea ads :) Way to go Becka :D
The policies that you mentioned are good, but I won't be surprised if it took ages before they are implemented. Instead of expecting the government or inductries to change policies (which they may not want to as they are not in their interest), we could start ourselves by educating ourselves and our children.
Girls should begin to believe in themselves (Men too, or anyone for that matter). We must know that staying healthy is more important than treating ourselves with rubbish. More important than all these is the inner strength. A person (applies to girls too) with a strong inner self can accomplish a lot more than anyone who has enhanced their physical appearance with technology.
Believe in yourself, screw the society, and move ahead!

It is very rare to see a Hollywood star who hasn't had their teeth bleached and straightened, and some plastic surgery - and these stars are often role-models to girls. Intelligent women (e.g. female scientists, serious writers, etc.) are rarely celebrated in women's magazines, creating an illusion that successful women work in a subset of traditionally female roles.

I think it's good to take care of your appearance, not to become addicted but to hide the shortcomings ... even our ancestors decorated their body and design their face at celebrates ... I believe that smart women do not prove anything if neglect their appearance. a little lipstick, mascara and foundation does not mean lack of naturalness and layout dependency...

Over time these companies have convinced people - especially women - that the adult human body is imperfect and needs improving. So body hair has become "disgusting," a natural overbite is "bad teeth," large facial features are "freakish" - you get the picture!

not necessarily what is imperfect but that we to look better ... let's recognize that we not all are endowed with beauty and that we do not need any cosmetic ... Some simply do not have measure ... it's good to want to look good but is bad to look good at any price ... sometimes this price is equal to a lifetime. companies advertise but they do not require anyone to purchase and use their products. All society pointed that one is more ugly than the other --

Thanks FreeThinker  I would certainly like to see parents encouraging their children to be more rational about their looks!

Peach - I am not against lipstick and mascara! My concern is that beauty has gone beyond this, with people being put under pressure to buy expensive products, have lengthy tretaments and even surgery. Perhaps more alarming, girls seem to increasingly rely on their looks instead of studying hard at school :fi

I think you are right - this is the root problem. Nobody wants to be laughed at, and nobody wants their child to be bullied at school. Did you know that some dentists will brace a little girls' milk teeth just so that she doesn't get teased at school?!

If we tackle the problem of bullying, then the beauty industry will be unable to exploit us.

This will definitely require some input from parents: they will need to discipline their children if they bully others, and give them emotional support if they are bullied at school. I often see parents encouraging their children to bully, and teaching them to indulge in beauty at a very young age.

I would like childrens' books to stop using beauty-stereotypes (the princess is blonde and pretty, while the wicked witch has black hair, warts and a hooked nose).

I would still like both schools and the beauty industry to embrace individual and racial differences. Arabic women have lovely thick lips, dark features and larger noses than Scandinavians, but that doesn't make them ugly!

An elderly woman of 107 years, in Malaysia, says he is ready to marry for the 23rd time, as fears that the current husband who is addicted to drugs, will leave her for a younger woman. Muhammad, who initially was the current tenant in the wives house, confessed some time ago that was "the will of God" as its two fall in love with each other. that is real woman.... :super :-P :-P

On how old she is, I would advise current husband to stay with her, cause she is old and probably also has money, also it is possible to enter in the Guinness Book of Records and will be payed also, but on the other hand, still, her house can be his...

That is the secret to longevity? We have an image of men consuming. But where are the other 22? :quoi
