Is It Normal That US Forbids The "under21" To Drink Alcohol?

Is it normal that US forbids the "under21" to drink alcohol?

Postby M.Helen » 25 May 2008, 08:26

I think this only makes the youth to be more intrigued by alcohol, and they use various ways to try it avoiding the adults' eye. It's bad, 16-18 is a fine age for trying alcohol. Agree?

I think that 21 is better age-limit than 18.
At modern times people psychologically aren't mature before 21 I think.
It is better for kids to strive for alcohol then other forbidden stuff. If alcohol was permited it would be misused regullary, not by excedent, and drugs would be more interesting.

I agree with sasha!
But in some EU countries, France for example, dry wine is given even to children in small amount and the population is not suffering from this.

But it is controled by elders, right? No law can stop enybody for doing things, it can just provide mesurements for punishing if someone brakes it.
I think that wine in small amounts is helthy. In ortodox church, small amounts are given to believers as blood of Christ, nobody has right to forbid this.

IMHO nobody should have the right to forbid anything that is not affecting the rights of others.

there is a joke about this: Americans begin drinking at the age of 21, whereas Russians at the age of 21 are given hypnotic treatment

if the USA is so concerned about the problems faced by the children/youth, they should firstly control the flow of drugs in the country, since in America there are more drug addicts than alcoholics

I know some boys who are under 21 in USA. They say it's not so strict, the probability you're gonna be asked to show IDs is 50/50

Scotland now also wants to introduce ban for under-21 alcohol drinking. New proposals for alcohol legislation may mean that those under 21 will not be allowed to buy drink in supermarkets and off-licences, though there would be no change to their ability to drink in restaurants and pubs.

Honestly I wouldn't like such a law is introduced in my country.

Law about alcohol in America:
" A person over 21 years of age may not buy alcohol for a person under 21 years of age, unless their relationship is that of parent and child or husband and wife, and even in those situations liquor must be bought at a package liquor store, not a restaurant or tavern. Violation of this section may result in a fine of $2,000, imprisonment up to 6 months, or both."

A 2,000 dollar fine is a good motivation for not doing that, but how can a person prove he is related to another one, if, for example, he doesn't have his IDs with him?

Believe it or not, the alcohol abusing problem has spread like a wild fire all across the world...

I think, this is the good movement here, at least U.S did show the concern about the alcohol drinking matter amongst the youngsters...
