How has the European Union integrated in regards to its military? Are the members of the European Union better off now than before? What exactly is the European Union's role in regards to international conflict? Terrorism?

Put most of their money into social programs and rely on the US to bail them out if something happens.

Really really terrible and ineffective "peacekeeping" missions which usually go horribly wrong and don't do anything to protect anybody. Simply look at all of the genocides they didn't prevent from the Serbian war to genocides in Africa
