"Turkey plays the key role in Europe" said the Englsih Queen

Postby Faw_Peter » 14 May 2008, 21:22

During a recent visit to Turkey the Queen compared Turkey with "a bridge between East and West at a crucial time".

whatever...

Turkey's current position is good, since it is neutral. but I wouldn't like Turkey to join Europe,

If we allow Turkey joining Europe, it may happen one day that it imposes its rules, which hardly I think we are gonna like. So, neither I support Turkey for joining EU.

I didn't say it's a threat. All I said is that European standards of life don't quite comply with the Turkish ones. Thus, we can't be together.

As far as I know, every new EU member must pass some exams, and meet some standards, before joining..

When the attitude of politicians and that of citizens in Europe are compared, one can easily se a quite clear distinction. In fact, eventhough there are politcians who thinks that Turkey should not be in Europe, there are considerable number of politicians who are eager to see Turkey in Europe. In the case of citizens, there is a huge prejudice. Citizens know Turkey as it was 30 years ago.

One of the major illusion is that Turkey is a state like Iran, Iraq or Syria. Turkey will be such a great country in such a short time that no European citizen will understand how it has been possible. Only politicians and intellecuals will be able to grasp the reason for this.

I am not of the opinion, as a Turkish citizen, that Turkey should be allowed immediately in to the EU. Even I dont think it is the proper time. But this time will not be too late.

So it is better for European citizens to try to know more about the current situation and what is happening in Turkey.

Best regards to everyone.

I don’t think turkey should be allowed to join the EU...

With 75 000 000 people turkey would be the second biggest population after Germany in the EU means a lot of seats at the parliament, and do we really want a country with other 75% of the population believing in Islam, being able to have any control or influence on European foreign and inner politics???
