The Lisbon Treaty provides a mechanism for the possible reduction of the size of the Commission from 2014. This mechanism, if used, would result in two-thirds of the member states, rather than all of them, nominating a Commissioner in 2014.

What is the current number of the members of the European Commission? Is it 27?

I believe that it still is 27.
One of the sticking points with the Irish was that it not "lose its Commissioner."
I'm not sure about how the change will occur...
