The fees are not gonna help. By the way, do Scottish people know how to make alcohol under household conditions? I know some people who can make brews staying home, maybe this is also a reason why Scotland has alcohol issues :quoi

It is easy Helen, 1 l. of fresh water, 200 gr. of yaest 300 gr of sugar. Put it in the dark place for one week. And you will have 1 l. of 65% alcohol beverage. There are a lot of drinks that you can create in the domestic conditions. :livre

We have real experts in alcohol here. Creating household alcoholic brews is not recommendable, mainly because of sanitary conditions (bacteria, pieces of hair etc.). Moreover, if you're not a chemist your brew might be poisinous.

It is fairly easy to make British beers in household conditions, and you can buy Home-brew kits from the chemist. However, most people treat these as a hobby or novelty, because cheap beers and cider cost very little from the supermarket.

In recent weeks I have read reports saying that supermarkets are to be put under pressure to stop selling very cheap alcohol, or doing two-for-the-price-of-one offers, etc. I have also read that some people are now suggesting that alcoholics should have their benefits cut

I don't think this will solve the problem, because in some UK towns it used to be easy to buy cheap imported / smuggled beer and fake spirits (e.g. methylated spirit diluted and sold as vodka). If people cannot afford to buy alcohol from pubs and supermarkets, they will buy it on the black market again :nonnon Then they will have even worse health problems :oO

If the British government decided to tackle the problem of alcohol, I believe they would take control over the so-called "black-market" and it will put an end to this issue. However it requires seriousness, because everything looks superb from the top of governmental chairs.
