Acid Rains

Acid rains

Postby M.Helen » 08 Jun 2008, 07:58

Acid rain is a rain which pours chemical water instead of a natural one. The main reasons are the emissions of sulfur and nitrogen from big factories. For many years, acid rains caused essential harms to the agriculture. This water can penetrate deep inside the soil and it will further be impossible to grow ecological production.

we do! But acid rains happen very rare, I don't think it may cause big damages to agriculture, or maybe I'm not enough informed

One of the consequence acid rains bring to the environment is that it causes death & disruption of food chains. Thereby the ecosystem is damaged.

Acid rain affects all types of materials, from historical or cultural value objects to more ordinary objects such as cars and vehicles. Acid rain, especially in the "dry" form, corrodes metal, and accelerates the deterioration of stone and paint. The colour of the car gets less saturated.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

forests are the first which feel the consequences. The chemicals contained in these rains simply eat trees alive. Look at this

very revealing photo... :nonnon
I've heard that marine species (fish especially) are very dangerous for our health too. The meat contains a big quantity of mercury from coal burning in electric power which was dissolved in the sea water.

do you think it has something to do with acid rains? Nevertheless, I haven't heard cases when people died because of eating any marine species.

it is all in the future, whales die because of oil blows, acid rains could also cause their death.

The notion of "acid rain" appeared in the middle of the 20th century, when the British scientists noticed that the pollution of the air by industrial factories made the common rains become a little bit "sourer" than usually. It is to be noticed that all rains have a little content of acid.

It's a good thing that the UK understands the problem well and offers money for carrying out researches in this respect, but unfortunately the poor countries don't pay attention to that, and thereby will suffer more because of acid raints.

Poor countries understand that rich countries will help them when it is necessary, since acid rains is a phenomenon which doesn't have border, and if nothing is done, not only one state is affected, but its neighbours as well.

I think UK is the country which may suffer mostly from acid rains because of 2 reasons:
1) UK is a superpower the economy of which is very strong and, thereby, industrial
2) UK is the country with lots and lots of rains.

well acid rains don't kill directly, but you can certainly get cancer from it.

Are there any national authorities in every country that monitor these rains, in order to warn the civilians?

the point is that any rain contains a bit of acids, the point is that we should know when this quantity gets bigger and when smaller. But, only special devices can assess that.

Hehe, you're betcha...lol

To be honest, the acid rains will still harm our health, especially we can have the risk of getting cancers, if we exposed ourselves in it too often!

Benn and Will, you are both wrong. Acid rains neither kill nor cause cancer. Instead, they may cause (but hardly possible) respiratory diseases such as asthma or chronic bronchitis.
