What is a good tool to pull staples?

I want to pull 18 gauge narrow 1/4 and 1.5 inches long crown staples from wood. What is a good tool to do this. I tried my narrow nose plier but it doesn't get a good grip. Are there any other heavy duty tools or pliers that you would recommend?

probably a pocket knife will do. Or maybe a pliers, a piercer or a screwdriver.
