Romania Could Adopt Euro In 2014

Romania could adopt euro in 2014

Postby Faw_Peter » 25 May 2008, 08:03

Romania could enter the euro zone on January 1, 2014, Minister of Economy and Finance Varujan Vosganian said in northeastern city Suceava on Saturday.

Vosganian said in the period 2012 through 2014 it is most likely that the payments will be made both in euros and in lei, but a decision to this end is to be taken by the governor of Romania's National Bank.

Vosganian voiced hope that the ministry he leads is to meet the incumbent obligations in this matter, so that the moment of entering the euro zone will be January 1, 2014.

Romanian President Traian Basescu said on Friday Romania has to set as a target the adoption of the euro in 2014.

The background for introducing EURO will not be only the economic development of only Romania or only Bulgaria. It's expensive for the EU to introduce EURO in these two countries in different periods. That's why, if EURO is launched in Romania it will simultaneously be introduced in Bulgaria.

if we talk about 2014, then, by that time, other countries could join EU, so EURO can be adopted not only in Romania and Bulgaria, but also in other countries

anyway, each country that will introduce euro will face at the beginning a big raise in price for everything. But, instead euro is much stronger than, for example, the Romanian leu. So it will be an advantage for Romania's economy.

The treaty from Maastricht, which drafts the background for the monetary european union, doesn't stipulate a strict calendar for adopting euro.

Romania targets economic growth, productivity and competitive wages as well as more competent and honest politicians, secure pensions and assistance to the needy. This will approach euro adoption.

I think EU should be more careful when accepting new members. Just take a look at Bulgaria - the local mafia has placed two bombs in Sofia again.

Just wondering one thing...
What if the Euro keeps falling due to the financial crisis, and by 2014 becomes very weak against the world currencies. Would Romania still want to introduce this currency? :quoi

I think Romania will join EU before year 2014, as they have much more to gain but nothing to lose with the action...

Hellloooo!!!
What are you talking about??? Romanai joined the EU on January 1, 2007. The question now is about introducing euro as the national currency, which is quite difficult to do. Some years ago Romania changed its old currency to a new one RON, but some Romanians still use the old currency.

yes, true, two currencies in one country. I don't know why, but Romanian authorities don't put much effort for fully removing the old currency. Maybe it's a kind of financial strategy that aims gaining profit from exchange rates fluctuations.

I think it is very possible but not so soon, maybe after 5-6 years but I don't think it will be so soon. This country is not yet ready for such changes in its economy and politics. From another hand who knows, but I think many people would be contrary to this decision.
